After two years of restrictions UEL hosted their 11th Annual University of East London Sports Awards on May 26th at the prestigious SportsDock.

The evening was dedicated to rewarding the efforts and successes of their students and sports clubs over the last 12 months, with awards presented such as ‘Club of the Year’, ‘Individual Achievement of the Year’ and ‘Coach of the Year’. This year they were also celebrating the 10th anniversary of the 2012 Olympic games and sport at the University of East London, and included memorabilia from the Olympic archives to view on the night.

Black Arrows who have been based at UEL SportsDock since the centre opened in 2012, were invited guests at the event.  Black Arrows runs a community Badminton club there on Tuesday’s 7-10pm open to UEL students and the wider local community. As well as being a key delivery partner with UEL for all Badminton coaching related activities, which includes team coaching for the UEL teams competing in the BUCS league.

In recognition of their outstanding support  to UEL in the development of Badminton playing and competitive opportunities for UEL students and the local community , Black Arrows were awarded ‘Partner of the Year’. The award was presented by Hilary Lissenden (UEL-Assistant Chief Operating Officer), to Black Arrows founder and Chairman Henry T. Gaspard, who was visibly taken back when the announcement was made.

Henry stated, “I was completely surprised by the announcement, because it was so unexpected, but the award reflects the strong partnership between UEL and Black Arrows for Badminton Development, and the commitment of our Coaches and volunteers who deliver our club session and coaching to the UEL team players. Special mention to  our UEL team coaches, Mark Yip and Shirley Louis-Onyebuashi for their dedication and professionalism in inspiring UEL team players to achieve their best.”
